Studio Etiquette Policy

Welcome to our pottery studio! To ensure a pleasant and productive environment for everyone, please follow these guidelines:

1. Keep the Space Clean: Always clean up your workspace before you leave. This includes wiping down tables, cleaning tools, and disposing of clay scraps properly. If there are trimmings on the floor, please clean those up with a sponge.

2. Be Mindful of Others: Remember that the studio is a shared space. Be considerate of others by keeping noise levels down and respecting their work areas.

3. Share the Space: During busy times, be prepared to share tables and equipment. If you need to use a specific piece of equipment, communicate politely with others who might also need it.

4. Respect Others’ Work: Do not touch or move someone else’s work without their permission. If you need to move something, always ask first.

5. Use Equipment Responsibly: Follow all guidelines for using studio equipment. If you’re unsure how to use something, ask for assistance.

6. Clean Up After Yourself: Before leaving, make sure your area is tidy and that all tools and equipment are returned to their proper places.

7. Earbud Use: While wearing earbuds is allowed, please keep the volume at a level where you can still be aware of your surroundings and communicate with others. This helps maintain an open and welcoming environment that fosters community and collaboration.

8. Phone Use: If you receive a phone call during Open Studio hours, please keep your voice low and your call short or step outside.

9. Fostering a Welcoming Community: Our studio is a place where creativity thrives in a positive and respectful environment. Treat all members, staff, and visitors with kindness and courtesy. Harassment, discrimination, or any behavior that creates a hostile atmosphere will not be tolerated and could result in the termination of your participation at the studio. If you have concerns about someone’s behavior, please bring them to our attention, and we will handle it according to our guidelines.

10. Personal Items: If you lose personal items in the studio, it is not the responsibility of the staff to locate them. You are responsible for keeping track of all your personal tools and items. If you drop your tools to the bottom of the rinse bucket, you must retrieve them regardless of the water level. Please do not put your personal ware boards on the firing shelf. If your items are found by staff, they will be placed in the lost and found.

11. Music in the Studio: Members are allowed to request music to be played through the studio speakers. Keep the volume at a considerate level, and always check with others sharing the space to ensure they are comfortable with the sound level and music choice.

12. Sanding Pottery: Always sand pottery outside over a bucket of water to minimize dust and debris in the studio. The only exception is when using the wet sanding method, in which you continually apply water to the clay and sand paper to prevent any dust from being created. If you accidentally create dust. Please use a wet sponge and mop to clean it up.

13. BYO Rags: We do not have communal studio rags. Please byo clay rags and aprons and wash them at home. We recommend washing your clay laundry regularly to keep down clay dust.
